Biomes are classified according to the predominant vegetation and characterized by adaptations or organisms to that particular environment.
*Aquatic biome: Can be broken down into two basic regions, fresh water and water like the ocean and etc. Fresh water is defined as having a low salt concentration usually less then 1%. Aquatic areas like the ocean cover about 3/4 of the earth.Marine algae supplys much of the worlds oxygen supply.
*Rain forest biome: There are 2 types of rain forest; temperate and tropical. Tropical rain forest are found closer to the equator while temperate are found around the coast in temperate zones. Today forest occupy about 1/3 of earths land territory. It also contains about 70% of the carbon present in living things.
*Grasslands biome: One type of grassland biomes is the Savanna, a Savanna is have individual trees scattered. They cover almost half the surface of Africa! Savannas that are caused by climate changes are called climate Savanna. Savannas caused by soil conditions are called edaphic savannas.
Deserts biome: Deserts occur where there's less then 50cm of rain a year and cover 1/5 of the earths surface! Deserts can be classified in four major characteristics; Hot and Dry, Semiarid, Cold, and coastal.
